Cramp-ervans shock police
A group of Korean tourists took carpooling a bit far on Saturday when 36 people piled out of three campervans at Milford Sound. The tourists' decision to leave five of their campervans in Te Anau and travel in just three vans to Milford Sound left police shaking their heads. Constable Jason Munro, of Te Anau, said the three drivers of the campervans were given tickets for overloading. "We took a fairly hard line because it's a busy road and there's a lot of tourists travelling on it. "The potential for disaster was there," Mr Munro said. The group went on a cruise at Milford and was shadowed back to Te Anau by police to ensure they arrived safely, Mr Munro said. The campervans were equipped for a maximum of six passengers, he said.
