Nightmares flood back
An Australian woman claims she is suffering terrifying flashbacks of the moment an aquarium shark tank burst over her. Hazel Swinden, 61, was standing in front of a tank at the Sydney Aquarium in 1997 when it ruptured. An enormous wave of 12,500 litres of water knocked her over and surrounded her with white and black-tipped sharks with razor sharp teeth. Ms Swinden is currently suing the aquarium for £326,000, claiming the glass in the tank was not thick enough to hold such a large volume of water, the Australia's Daily Telegraph has reported. The woman, from Perth, suffered a four inch gash on her left ankle and other injuries from the shattered glass - but she was not harmed by the sharks. Ms Swinden's doctor has told Sydney's District Court that she developed emotional problems after the incident, including sudden "episodes of tearfulness" and a tendency to overreact to minor events. Simon Torvaldson said: "She is now too afraid to go on boats due to a fear of sharks and water." Ms Swinden told the court earlier this week: "I tried to get up because I knew there were sharks in the water. "The water was up to my chest when I was sitting. I looked out to the side and I saw a big, black shape swim down the side of me. It went around my feet. It was a shark."
